What. A. Night!
We celebrated the 17th anniversary of Group Y at Skullcandy Inc. west HQ in Costa Mesa to reconnect, announce our plans for the future, and chat about all things community and the importance of intergenerational connection.
The night kicked off with Brian Garofalow "BG" (CEO of Skullcandy) and Mark Sperling (Co-founder of Group Y) discussing how brands can facilitate community moments and why it's important for companies to tap into the people leading the charge on the ground.
Following that, Kyrstin Stone (Managing Director of Group Y) moderated a panel with Jessa Williams (founder of Intrsxtn Surf) and Brooklinn Khoury (skateboarder + model), where authenticity and intersectionality were the biggest themes. Brooklinn reminded us that if you're trying to grow your brand online, forget the filters and be as real as possible (and forget about the numbers)!
Overall, it was a night that truly embodied this next chapter for Group Y, and we hope to see you all at our next event.
Make sure to keep your eyes open for event photos and videos, follow along on social (Linkedin, Instagram, X, TikTok, Facebook), and sign up for a community profile so that you can connect with more community members!
This new year for Group Y is already off to a great start!
After 17 years and 250+ events, Group Y is relaunching to bring in the next generation of community leaders and change-makers in the youth culture and outdoor/action sports industry.

Burton Snowboards has earned its spot at #25 on the Authenticity 500 Index.
There are numerous reasons for this. Firstly, the company's founder, Jake Burton, was a passionate snowboarder, laying the foundation for a brand rooted in authenticity.
"It's that rebellious nature that is part of snowboarding, that is part of Burton, that is part of my life."
The company's commitment to the sport and its culture is evident in its product innovation, sponsorships, and engagement with the snowboarding community.
As one snowboarder stated, "Burton is the real deal. They understand snowboarding because they live and breathe it. That authenticity shines through in everything they do."
Another factor contributing to Burton's authenticity is its dedication to sustainability and environmental responsibility. The brand has taken significant steps to reduce its carbon footprint and minimize its environmental impact.
Lastly, Burton's authenticity is reinforced by its inclusive and diverse approach to the sport.
The brand has actively promoted increasing equity, representation, and inclusion for all people in the sport.
Through initiatives like Culture Shifters brings together BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and people of color) change-makers to build a community of riders that represents what they hope the future of snowboarding will look like—diverse, inclusive, and empowering.
Burton Snowboards' position on the Authenticity 500 Index is well-deserved due to its genuine connection to the snowboarding culture, commitment to sustainability, and promotion of inclusivity.
What our community thinks;
"It truly listens to the people they make their products for. Rider-driven feedback and a genuine care for customer feedback."
"Jake Carpenter thought outside the box and developed a brand that push boundaries and create a culture that is still relevant in today's society."
