Social Distancing Races Unite Runners Across United States and Overseas

Runners Raised More Than $2,000 for St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas 

The first-ever social distancing races happened concurrently on Saturday, April 25 from the east coast to the west coast of the United States with one runner participating overseas in Denmark. It all started in Garden City, KS and this was more than just a chance for people to get out of their homes during the mandated stay at home order, this social distancing race raised more than $2,000 for frontline workers at Garden City, Kansas’ local hospital, St. Catherine. A total of 77 runners in the Social Distance Races ran in 24 cities, 9 states and two countries. Runners participated independently, tracked their race times digitally and submitted them to the race organizer.

The Social Distancing Races started when the marathon a Kansas man, Brandon Mumgaard, had been training for was cancelled, he took positive action by creating the Social Distancing 5K, 10K, half and full marathon races.
