IASC Grows By Leaps And Bounds
3/02/05 (San Diego, CA) The January ASR show has proven to be exceptional in regards to IASC participation. With so many new members signing up, Committee members, Jeff Kendall and Steve Douglas believe that 2005 is looking to be a very eventful year. We were able to welcome several important companies and people into the IASC family, as a direct result of ASR, including several international members! A hardy welcome to one and all from the chairman of the IASC board, Tod Swank so without further ado, here they are:

News From IASC Committees
IASC Youth Committee Members, Johnny Schillereff and Bod Boyle have been on quite a tear lately, with many events planned for 2005. In addition to International “Go Skateboarding Day” (June 21—mark your calendars!), there are Learn To Skate days, Shadow Programs, Career Days, Youth Skate Camps, and Scholarships in the works. To find out more about how you can help make all this happen, contact the Youth Committee through the IASC office. The IASC youth scholarship fund will be receiving funds from the very successful NHS Book signing (we need more of this kind of excitement) and the Transworld Gallery sightings auction. Less fortunate skateboarders will benefit from these two auctions.
IASC’s first Skatepark Development guide from Per Welinder, Jim Gray, Fran Richards and the rest of the skatepark committee plans to have its first full draft completed by June of this year.
IASC Marketing committee consisting of Don Brown and Per Welinder created a very exciting campaign. IASC Plans to run its first trade and consumer magazines advertisements placed in prestigious skateboard magazines this year pushing “Go Skateboarding Day.”
IASC Plans Gala Event for Fundraising
To generate funds for 2005’s projects, IASC will be hosting “Casino Night” at the Vans Skatepark in Orange, CA. A portion of the proceeds will go to the IASC Youth Scholarship Fund. Food, games, prizes, and of course, skateboard exhibitions from a few of the greatest are part of the festivities. Tickets will be $100 per person. Stay tuned for all of the information this upcoming week, but save the date - May 21st! Steve VanDoren and the committee are expecting it to be among the best events packed with fun and excitement!
BRA/IASC Round Table Discussion A Success
At January’s ASR show, The Board Retailers’ Association (BRA) and IASC teamed up to bring retailers and manufacturers together for an open discussion. Some of the topics discussed were: Giving Part-time retail employees more product knowledge, potential standardizations on things like Return Authorizations, the threat of Big-Box superstores, and much more. There was also talk of a “concept store” to be set up at the next trade show, where clinics could be run and experts could give lectures on topics like merchandising, and displays.
