Freestyle Watch Co. Surf Team Grabbing Headlines Around The Globe
From coast-to-coast across the U.S.A and around the planet - the Freestyle Watch Co. surfers are in the news...in a timely fashion
CARLSBAD, Calif., (May 11, 2005) – Elite members of the Freestyle Watch Co. Surf Team have been ON IT as of late, dominating contests, shooting some insane footage and grabbin’ all sorts of pub as they represent the Freestyle brand.
Here’s a look at Freestyle Watch Co's surf team, Spring ’05...
• Shane Dorian: Shane won the 2005 Jay Moriarity Award at the XXL Awards for best all around performance. Shane was the only surfer to be nominated in both the Tow-in and Paddle-in categories. Shane is now in Tahiti to compete in the VZ Trials of the Billabong Pro at Teahupoo. Shane’s ready to charge whatever the south pacific can serve up.
• Cory Lopez: Cory recently placed equal 3rd at the Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach contest. Cory is also a favorite at the upcoming Billabong Pro at Teahupoo considering the fact that he was 2nd in 2003 and the winner of the 2001 event. Keep your eyes open for Cory's new signature watch, the Lopex II available at the end of the year.
• Teddy Navarro: Teddy won Event #6 of the Matix/Sundiego Pro Am in Ocean Beach (Calif.), pocketing a cool $1,500. No doubt he’ll be traveling the world surfing/shooting and competing at select WQS Events for the rest of the year.
• Alek Parker: Alek is all over the June 2005 issue of Surfer Magazine, featured in the “Lost Island Revealed” cover story. Alek spent the a couple weeks of April in the Mentawais on an O’neill photo trip, spending his time lately in Cali surfing the Lowers WQS.
• Jeremy Saukel: Jeremy’s been busy chasing waves all over Florida – and has found some good ones. Check out the video on surfline.com dubbed “Giant South Florida.” Here’s a link Jeremy sent us: http://www.surfline.com/video/index.cfm Jeremy, The Hobgoods and friends tow into some of the biggest Florida surf you’ve ever seen. It’s rad.
• Nick Rozsa: Nick just got back from Camp Hobgood in Nicaragua. Now he’s focusing on ripping it up for the Ventura Pelicano’s in the NSL Game and preparing to defend his NSSA Westerns title - hopefully follow that up with his first national title at the 2005 NSSA Nationals.
• Mary Osborne: Mary’s busy traveling all over, to New York promoting her shoe sponsor Etnies, to Cabo to teach the owners of the airline America West how to surf, then jammin’ off to Costa Rica for a photo shoot. The next big thing on Mary’s plate is the release of her book Sister Surfer: A women’s guide to surfing with bliss and courage. Mary will be doing a book signing tour throughout summer from San Francisco to San Diego along with several TV appearances and interviews. For sure check out www.sistersurfer.com.
• Holly Beck: Holly is hosting “Summer Revolution” on the Outdoor Life Network, airing Wednesday nights this spring/summer. She’s also gracing the Cover of the Women’s Health Magazine, which hits the newsstands this month. Holly also finds time to perform her duties as the President of International Women’s Surfing (IWS). Check out www.womenssurfing.orgto see what Holly has cooking in the world of women’s surfing.
• Schuyler McFerran: Congrats to female longboarder Schuyler McFerran. Schuyler recently won the Hobie San Onofre Classic last weekend. Schuyler will also be showcased in the next Freestyle ad in SG.
Stay tuned for the NEW Freestyle coming to you this Fall at ASR and Surf Expo....
About Freestyle Watch Co.
Established in 1981, Freestyle Watch Co. is the brainchild of a couple of surfers whose mission was to create a line of watches that could withstand the abusive conditions of their beach lifestyle. From experience they knew very few watches on the market stood up to the daily abuse of salt water and sand. Their goal was to fill the void. The result was The Shark, a lightweight, low profile and extremely durable digital timepiece that was immediately demanded by athletes all over the world. Today, while The Shark is still ticking, Freestyle Watch Co. has grown into a great looking line of analog, metal, leather, and fitness pieces that represent unmatched quality and value, including custom pieces designed by Professional Surfers Cory Lopez and Shane Dorian.
