Los Angeles Art Collective CALIFORNIA LOCOS paid tribute to legendary surf/rock artist Rick Griffin with a celebratory tribute event on November 30. Juice Magazine presented this event that more than 300 people attended, which included the first screening of Pacific Vibrations in 50 years. The classic surf film created by John Severson inspired one of Griffin’s most legendary poster creations. CALIFORNIA LOCOS founder and award-winning filmmaker Dave Tourjé showcased Griffin in a new short film titled Rick Griffin Interlude 01, Pacific Vibrations. While Griffin’s family, friends, and peers took to the stage to share remarkable stories and thank those in attendance, the new limited-edition capsule collection of CALIFORNIA LOCOS x Rick Griffin skateboards hung in the background for guests to see for the first time.
The OG CALIFORNIA LOCOS group welcomed the Griffin family and shared stories of his impact as a trailblazer in the surf, rock, and art worlds. As creatives, they spoke highly of Griffin as a pioneering artist of the psychedelic rock poster era, impacting everything from graffiti to graphics to fine art.
