Forum's JP Walker Joins The Benji Project
IRVINE, CA – June 20, 2006 – Question: What do you get when a handful of the world’s best surfers, snowboarders and skateboarders, as well as a critically acclaimed musician, converge on a lush island resort off the coast of Sumatra? Answer: The eagerly-awaited first installment of The Benji Project.
Produced and hosted by full-time waterman / part-time comedian, Benji Weatherley, over the next six months The Benji Project will trek to the ends of the earth and back again to document the unique lifestyle and exciting adventures afforded some of today’s top action sports athletes and the musicians who inspire them.
Although The Benji Project isn’t set to release until summer 2007, the first trip is already well underway. Benji along with fellow pro surfers Kalani Robb, Yadin Nichols, Rizal Tanjung, Ross Williams and Tom Carroll have joined forces with pro skater Tosh Townend, musician Jack Johnson, and Forum’s own JP Walker to live the dream and surf their hearts out at picturesque Kandui Resort in the remote Mentawai Islands chain. By all accounts, the trip has been nothing short of mind-blowing so far with glassy, overhead conditions and barrels galore. Truly an epic adventure!
“This place is amazing, and I'm thinking about changing professions right about now,” jokes JP. “I'm excited to have world class waves at my disposal, and I feel really lucky to be a part of this trip and fortunate that I get to travel to such an awesome place with such a great group of people.”
Look for all-access, behind-the-scenes coverage of The Benji Project’s first installment on FUEL TV and in the pages of TransWorld Surf in the months ahead.
