RAX Owner Gives The Hair Off His Head To Help Cancer Kids

John Hawkins, Owner of RAX by Radically Inclined, cuts 12 inches of hair for “Locks of Love”, an organization that takes donors hair to make wigs for kids who are suffering from long-term medical hair loss.

Bremerton, WA (September, 2006) – John Hawkins sat down for his first haircut in over 8 months at Artistic Images Hair Salon in Silverdale, WA, cutting 12 inches of long blond hair. Why? It all started when his 6 year old daughter Eleena Hawkins, asked him to grow his hair for Locks of Love, “LOL”, for her kindergarten’s “LOL” hair drive. His hair already fairly long, still had some growing to do to reach the minimum 10” of cut hair for the “LOL” requirement. Well, over 1 year later, it finally reached the magic length. His daughter was right beside him during the occasion, as the official cheerleader and photographer. Once John had grown his hair long, Eleena, really wanted her Father to keep it long, but she decided it was OK and was willing to make the sacrifice for the “LOL” kids.
What is Locks of Love? Locks of Love is a non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children under age 18 suffering from long-term medical hair loss. They meet a unique need for children by using donated hair to create the highest quality hair prosthetics. Most of the children helped by Locks of Love have lost their hair due to a medical condition called alopecia areata, which has no known cause or cure. The prostheses they provide help to restore their self-esteem and their confidence, enabling them to face the world and their peers.

John and Eleena would like to encourage other outdoor recreation industry professionals to make contributions to “LOL”. John comments, “We are in the quality-of-life industry, here is our chance to really enhance the quality-of-life for some of these kids.”  If you don’t want to shave your head, you can also buy “Curly” from and 10% of the proceeds go to Locks of Love. So what is RAX? RAX is an innovative and good looking ski storage system that is designed to provide better space management and shop effectiveness. This simple but clever concept will help ski shops save floor space as well as increase operating efficiency for any size ski rental operation. The space efficient RAX holds 32 sets of skis in a two foot by four foot area. Ski shops can move skis where they want them, when they need them. They can also roll the RAX out of the way and condense their ski storage, using 33% less space than any of the popular ski storage systems on the market today.

RAX can accommodate most rental ski widths up to 102mm tails and works great for twin tip skis, kid’s skis and cross country. RAX also has FAT RAX for ski widths up to 128mm tails. There are also RAX for the home, garage or mountain cabin.

RAX by Radically Inclined is a member of The Ski Industry Association, Association of Outdoor Recreation and Education and Canada West Ski Area Association. RAX will be on display at the AORE conference in Boise, Idaho, November ’06 and SIA ’07 Snowsports Trade Show in Las Vegas in January ‘07.
