Ski Lake Tahoe Resorts Open 2006-2007 Season

Lake Tahoe, CA & NV (Nov. 23, 2006) – The first of the Ski Lake Tahoe resorts officially kicked off the 2006-2007 season today by firing up the ski lifts for early season enthusiasts to get in their first turns. Heavenly was the first of the seven Ski Lake Tahoe resorts to open with other resorts planning to follow suit, including Squaw Valley USA on Dec. 2. With resorts’ snowmaking efforts underway and a storm projected to bring a foot of snow to the region this weekend, the season will be in full swing in just a matter of days.

Lake Tahoe resorts enter the new season following a banner year of countless storms that blanketed the area with heavy snowfall, so much that last winter the region encountered the most snowfall in North America with resorts boasting a five-year snow total average of 35 feet/420 inches. Popular for its massive late season snowfall, the region is also known for more tolerable conditions on the mountain in addition to over 300 days of sunshine annually.

For the 2006-2007 season, resort improvements range from entire town remodel projects at Heavenly and Northstar-at-Tahoe Resort to new groomed trail patterns at Alpine Meadows, to new snowmaking & parking improvements at Mt. Rose - Ski Tahoe, to Squaw Valley USA launching a TV station to inform guests and snow cat tours at Kirkwood. Terrain park lovers will be impressed with Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort’s endless top-to-bottom runs touting features for all ability levels.
