FUEL TV Surf Series FINS Receives Emmy Nomination
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: FUEL TV, the 24/7 action sports lifestyle network, is pleased to announce that the surfing TV series “FiNS,” produced by Opper Sports Productions, has been nominated for an Emmy Award.
“FiNS” is a magazine-format sports series that captures the progression of modern surfing in the making. Produced by Emmy Award winner and 25-year surf film veteran Ira Opper, “FiNS” gets rare access into the likes of eight-time World Champion Kelly Slater, the Irons brothers, and the new breed of surfing legends.
The nominated episode profiles legendary surf filmmaker and photographer Greg Huglin; Central California's trio of surf brothers Chris, Keith and Dan Malloy; and presents a surf session in tsunami-ravaged Indonesia.
"To work with a talented crew documenting a sport that you are passionate about is all a filmmaker can hope for,” says Ira Opper, Producer and President of Opper Sports Productions. “The bonus is that ‘FiNS’ is being recognized by the Academy."
“We’re honored to have ‘FiNS’ nominated for an Emmy,” says Shon Tomlin, FUEL TV VP of Programming and Development. “This recognition for ‘FiNS’ is deserved because Ira and his team do an outstanding job capturing the stories, personalities, and spirit of modern surf culture in a way that is stylish and true to the sport.”
The nomination by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Pacific Southwest Chapter for “FiNS” is in the Magazine category. The award presentation will take place on June 14, 2008 at the La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, California.
