Retail-Specific Events at ASR Announced

The following is a list of important and/or exciting retail-focused meetings and events that I hope you will be able to participate in during the upcoming ASR trade show in San Diego next week. We realize that your schedules are very busy so we’ve taken the liberty of highlighting some don’t miss events. As always we look forward to seeing you during the trade show. The BRA Retail Center will be located at Booth #1245/1345. We hope that you can stop by and say hello. My cell phone number is 910-274-3252 in case you need to reach me or have trouble locating any of the conference rooms. Happy Labor Day Weekend!

Thursday, September 4

8:00 am IASC/BRA Roundtable (Meeting Room #3) – If you are a retailer that carries skate hardgoods, you NEED to be at this meeting. Skate manufacturers are very concerned about the current trade show schedule/dates and if you want to know what they plan to do in the future or provide your input and preferences, RSVP to Melissa. You must be RSVP’d in order to attend this invite-only meeting. In addition to the tradeshow schedule, we’ll also be discussing retail focused education for skate shop employees.

11:30 am ASEC/BRA Greenroom Panel and Buffet Luncheon (Meeting Room 14A&B) – Tired of the usual trade show lunch food? Join ASR, ASEC and BRA for a free all natural lunch and a super star panel discussion on eco-nomics and environmentally friendly board sport products. There are a few spaces left and you must RSVP, if you haven’t already, in order to attend. Panelists include: Dick Baker, Chairman Emeritus of SIMA, Bob McKnight, CEO of Quiksilver (Invited), Chris Miller, founder of Planet Earth and Adio, Richard Woolcott, CEO of Volcom (Invited), Tod Swank, Owner Tum Yeto and Johnny Schillereff, founder Element Skateboards.

1:30 pm Skate Merchandising Panel (Meeting Room #5B) - Join skate retailers and manufacturers as they lead an interactive discussion on merchandising skate hardgoods. The skate panel will review the project and results of a merchandising test conducted jointly between ZJ Boarding House and IASC. The panel will also review unique merchandising techniques currently being implemented in skate shops.  Following a brief presentation, the floor will open for discussion and a hypothetical group merchandising project.

Friday, September 5

8:30 am BRA Meeting (Meeting Room 23C) - Join the BRA Board of Directors and other retail members for a brief update on the associations activities and goals. Specifically, we'll have a demo of the latest and greatest BRA retail education program on 3point5, a discussion on the Retail Summit 2009, an interactive conversation on our plan to combat the airline fees for transporting surfboards and snow gear, a review of the association survey efforts, and an outline of the association strategic plan and timeline for future activities. This informal meeting is a great opportunity to mingle with other board sport retailers as well as voice concerns over issues facing your business.
