More good news for Southern California’s skiers and snowboarders, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) says El Nino is back and expected to strengthen through the winter of 2009-2010.  This periodic warming of the tropical Pacific Ocean can lead to drier conditions in northern Australia, Indonesia, and the Philippines, but has been known to cause huge winter storms across the southern United States bringing much needed moisture to the Southwest.

Says John McColly, Director of Marketing, “To put it into perspective, last season we received 130 inches of snow.  During the last El Nino in 2004/05 we received 278 inches.  And in 1997/98 we saw an amazing 310 inches.”
