SUPPORT: Hurley Pro Auction Raises Thousands for San Onofre Foundation
September 9, 2013
Top five winning bidders will surf Lower Trestles with Rob Machado
Press Release from Hurley
COSTA MESA, Calif. — September 9, 2013 – The five open Hurley Pro Expression Session spots have been sold to a small group of philanthropists. The combined generosity of the five surfers and donors raised nearly $15,000 for the San Onofre Foundation.
Not every auction winner plans to surf in the event: some plan to “sponsor” family or local kids. The winner of Spot 5, Buggs from Southern California, plans to surf “depending on the conditions;” if the surf is small, he will donate his spot to “a grom on the beach.”
Mike Harvison of Colleyville, Texas, plans to paddle out and is coming out to California just for the chance to surf an empty Lowers with Rob Machado.
Another spot was claimed by Matt Brower of San Diego, CA; although Brower is giving the surf session to someone as a surprise.
The Expression Session will take place between the Semifinal and Final rounds of the Hurley Pro, set to start September 15. In addition to the surf session, each winner receives a Hurley Pro gift pack, a San Onofre gift pack, VIP treatment, as well as being featured on the live webcast.
