SUPPORT: Icebreaker Executive Shears Locks for Children's Cancer Association

September 23, 2013

US Wholesale General Manager Lisa Thompson raised $10,000 for charity
Press Release from Icebreaker

Wellington, New Zealand (September 2013) – Icebreaker's Lisa Thompson broadcasted her bold, bald challenge to her friends and family on August 26, 2013, writing, “I am not growing a moustache, walking 5 miles or running a marathon, but I do want to deliver joy to sick children and their families. This is why I am prepared to shave my lid in honor of the brave kids who are served by the Children’s Cancer Association (CCA). If we can raise $10,000 by September 21, it will all come off.”

She sent the link to her donation page to people she knew all over the world, and their response surprised her. The spirited and beloved leader of the US Icebreaker office in Portland inspired generosity and surpassed her fundraising goal a few days early on Thursday, September 19, 2013.

That afternoon, the shears came out. Surrounded by her three kids, coworkers, friends, Thompson had her dark brown locks shaved off.

“I have to admit that having my head shaved reminded me a bit of all of the merino sheep being sheared at Icebreaker’s merino farms in New Zealand. This is a fantastic cause and I’m honored to help raise money for CCA and the children it helps every day.”

All of the money Thompson raised will go to the CCA, which raises money to bring joy to seriously ill children and teens around the area. Thompson is a member of the CCA's board. The organization hosted its Super Hero Gala on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013 at the Portland Art Museum.

Thompson added, “I am deeply grateful to my generous family and friends around the world who contributed to this little project financially and in spirit and with love and support.”
