December 2012 Newsletter
It's hard to believe it's been three months since my last newsletter went out, but winter is finally here (for some of us at least) and thus begins another season of shooting skiing and snowboarding among other things. Before that begins, let me share what I've been working on over the last few months...
Every fall Aspen/Snowmass hosts a snow sports film festival dubbed The Meeting, where filmmakers, athletes, photographers, and industry friends reconnect in anticipation for the upcoming season. I spent a long weekend out there in September covering the event for ESPN. We're able to see all of the new ski/snowboard films at the Wheeler Opera House, listen to industry speakers, and go to concerts each night. It's always a good time and this year was the best one yet. I highly suggest making it out there for the event next year.
With the ski season finally underway, my editorial work from last season is showing up in various ski magazines around the world. Pictured below is an image I shot last season of Norwegian skier Sig Tveit while on a shoot with Level 1 Productions. This ran as a spread in issue 12.1 of Canadian ski magazine SBC Skier
Another image of mine recently showed up in Powder magazine, of skier Jason Randall. Powder wanted to do a profile piece on people who have 9-5 jobs but still ski a ton, and Jason fit that profile so we met up for a morning and shot together. After talking, we came to realize we're both originally from the same small(er) town in Ohio and both grew up skiing at the same small hill outside of Cleveland; it's a small world.
Since May I've been documenting Target's team of action sports athletes, and we recently all met in New York City for Target's 50th Anniversary celebration. While they were in town I spent an afternoon photographing the athletes as they had the chance to see the city by boat cruising around New York Harbor. Those images were then used by Target on their blog, ABullseyeView.com
I just recently went down to Tallahassee, Florida to spend an afternoon shooting Target's motocross athlete Ryan Dungey. I headed out to his training facility outside of Tallahassee while he was there filming an upcoming webisode, and after his interviews I had some time to shoot with him.
After getting back to Colorado, I headed to Keystone Resort to meet up with professional skier James 'Woodsy' Woods. The photos were shot for a profile that SKIING magazine out of Europe will be doing on Woodsy soon.
In my last newsletter I shared some images I shot for FootJoy golf in conjunction with Boa Technology. Those images have come together as part of a microsite highlighting the advantages of using FootJoy golf shoes enabled with the Boa Technology lacing system.
