EMP: Powder Announces New Staff for 44th Volume
June 18, 2015
POWDER, The Skier's Magazine, is excited to announce several staffing changes for the start of this season's 44th volume.
Former Managing Editor John Clary Davies has been promoted to Executive Editor, replacing John Stifter. "I'm excited to announce the promotion of Davies. He has worked as a part of the staff for almost a decade and truly embodies the spirit and knowledge to lead the title forward," says POWDER General Manager, Ashley Otte. "Davies will be directing all editorial properties moving forward, including print, digital, social and events."
Davies assumes the Executive Editor role after holding a number of other positions at POWDER. Growing up skiing at Mount Hood, Davies started with POWDER in 2006 as an intern followed by a winter working the salad line at Alta's Goldminer's Daughter while becoming a Correspondent and later a Senior Correspondent. In 2012, Davies was named Associate Editor, relocating to the slopes of Southern California, and a year later promoted to Managing Editor.
"I'm a product of POWDER magazine in every sense," says Davies. "I want to make Captain Powder, all the editors who have come before me, and the entire staff proud. With the team we have on staff, I'm confident I can."
Joining Davies for promotions at POWDER, former Online Editor Julie Brown will be taking on the new role of Associate Editor. Brown, who has a Masters from the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism, will oversee larger digital projects while expanding her role to include several departments in the magazine.
"I am beyond excited to step into a new role that encompasses both print and digital," says Brown. "The opportunity to continue to evolve POWDER's multimedia presence while managing parts of the magazine I grew up reading is a dream come true."
Additionally, POWDER welcomes Tyler Hartlage as the new Art Director. Hartlage is a recent graduate of Spring Hill College with a B.A. in graphic design. "I couldn't have asked for a better opportunity at this time in my life," says Hartlage. "POWDER has such an incredible team and I'm excited to be a part of the legacy and have the opportunity to continue the award-winning design of the title."
Rounding out the line-up, Sierra Davis joins the staff as the Assistant Editor. A Colorado native and lifelong skier, Davis joins POWDER after serving two years as Lifestyle Editor at the Palisadian Post in Los Angeles.
"I couldn't be more excited to combine my two great loves of writing and skiing," says Davis. "I am so thankful to be joining POWDER's editorial team and look forward to continuing a tradition of authenticity POWDER readers have come to expect, while being part of a number of exciting innovations in the near future."
