July 27, 2016

ESPN’s E:60 – Friday, July 29 at 7 p.m. ET

Mick Fanning is known throughout the elite surfing community as one of the best in the sport.  Yet Google the 3-time surfing world-champion and the result is story after story of the single moment in time he is most famous for.

Last July, while competing in South Africa in a live television event, 34 year-old Fanning was about to take his final run when, to the horror of announcers and on-lookers, he was attacked by a great white shark – and miraculously managed to fend-off devastation until he was rescued.

The video of the moment and the emotional aftermath went viral and has since been replayed over 20 million times.  This past year, as Fanning geared up to return to South Africa and the waters where he nearly lost his life, E:60 met up with the surfer in his Australian homeland to discover more about the man behind the shark attack.

Fanning reveals and discusses the loss and adversity he has faced out of the water since he was a teenager – and why this summer, he decided to return to the scene of the attack.

Hollywood star, surfer and Australian native Chris Hemsworth narrates the remarkable story of surfing champion Mick Fanning.
